Understanding Our World is a one-semester course, divided into two parts, with the purpose of bringing a changing world into perspective. One part of the course is devoted to the study of historical turning points that have shaped modern civilizations. The second part of the course deals with the monumental changes taking place now, the problems they present, and the issues they create. The goal of the course is to have the student deal with these problems, to develop a tolerance, and to adjust to a world of globalism and cultural diversity. Assessment will be on tests and quizzes, as well as completion of assignments, presentations, and projects. Because this course is offered on three different levels (Honors, College Prep, and On-Level), the depth of study and the work required is calibrated according to the level selected.
